Potentially hazardous terrain. 0.9mi Directions from Ozark: From Ozark take Arkansas 23 north for 18 miles then turn right (east) on Forest Service Road 1003 for 3 miles. The trail is marked with blue blazes. One can access the hot spring, or go boat riding at the early hours on Lake Ouachita and enjoy a marvelous view.

Accessible year-round, this hiking adventure offers a spellbound experience of the Ouachita Mountains and an amazing trek to remember. Perfect for sunset hike since the view is to the west, and you won’t have to hike in the dark as long as you leave pretty soon after the sun disappears beyond the mountains. The trail is peaceful and was not busy when I went.

There is not 256 feet of elevation change from the road to the high point just east of the overlook. The hike from Redding Campground to Spy Rock (Ozark National Forest, northeast Franklin County) is a great day hike. It also connects to the Goat Trail. Turn right and follow the East Junction back to the campground.

The hike takes about five to six hours to complete the loop. Head out and back to Spy Rock or continue onward to the Ozark Highlands Trail if more mileage is desired. The main attraction of the Pedestal Rocks Loop is the Pedestal Rocks which was formed as a result of water and wind erosion, thus sculpting these small, mushroom-shaped columns and small caves.
