I parked at the bottom of Crab Tree Falls ($3 parking fee for the day) and hiked to Spy Rock and back; Crab Tree Falls continues from the top to the Meadows Lane parking lot, and from there you can hike to Cash Hollow road mentioned below. The long rugged one-way road that takes you into what many consider the Spy Rock trail region is treacherous and definitely requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Great hike to Spy Rock. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out. Return trip much easier about 90 minutes each way. Not recommended for any vehicle if it’s forecasted to snow (it’s state maintained but not cleared in the winter). The hike from the top of CF to Spy Rock was beautiful and long.

The route depicted here is open. I would give it 4 stars because of the 4 miles rocky road from paved road to the trailhead (you might think that’s it a wrong way but just keep going the location is correct), i gave it 5 stars because the view paid it all. If you drive this road slowly and use the many pullouts to allow opposite direction vehicles to pass it will not be a problem. The view is awesome. There is a 3 mile route that starts on the AT at the fish hatchery, You will need a lifted 4wd car to get to the trailhead. But it was a beautiful and refreshing hike and even through the clouds the views were gorgeous. Pleasant, The Priest, Three Ridges and … The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.

Spy Rock is a pink granite dome located in the Llano Uplift in Mason County, Texas, rising 1,749 feet (533 m) feet above sea level. The AT trail has also been cleared on the sides all the way from Cash Hollow gap south to Spyrock so you can wear shorts. The view from Spy Rock is truly spectacular! The trail itself is on the easy side of moderate.
