A really excellent visit to Gloucester Cathedral. You can get this from the gift shop on your left as you enter.Entry is free but there is a donation box with a suggested £5 donation from each person. There is so much to see.The place is majestic. We visited on a very wet Bank Holiday. We spent a lovely relaxed hour looking around the cathedral. All cathedrals are special but Gloucester is simply awesome. The magic of JK Rowling and Harry Potter is weaving its spell on visitors to Gloucester Cathedral. Internally it really is a marvel with more amazing architecture, historic relics and features. I noticed the Lynn Chadwick sculptures outside, and realised that they were gearing up for the second major sculpture Exhibition, Cruciible 2. This building is beautiful from the outside, but has been spoilt (in my opinion) on the inside as all the old pews have been removed and replaced with cheap chairs - even the choirstalls and alter are modern and some of the sculptures don't seem to belong in a cathedral at all. My boys, 9 and 7 have visited the cathedral a few times and always ask to go back! Found it very fascinating. This is a cultural gem at the heart of what is a very interesting historic city. People are around for your assistance if you have any questions. I think Gloucester is the most spectacular and awe inspiring cathedral I have visited. It has a lovely gift shop too, and a friendly coffee shop in the cloisters which sells soup, sandwiches, cake, and the much recommended Pilgrim's Pie.
