From Interstate 64 you want to take the Blue Ridge Parkway south until you see the entrance to the Humpback Rocks parking lot on your left. Humpback Rocks is an area rich in history, scenic beauty, and abundant hiking trails. The path was clear to follow and multiple switchbacks kept it from being a more difficult trek. It can get pretty crazy up there. Plus, it’s always a bit easier heading back down, right?! Great trail. On the right side of the parking lot you will find the trail head for Humpback Rocks. There are benches periodically on the way up if you do need to stop and rest. Very moderate but short hike with a great view of the area. You just can’t stay out very late with a 2 month old! On our way back down to the parking lot we ran into a group of locals who took great affection to Harley and Charlie. The walk back down was a bit steep and hard on the knees, but it was only a mile or so. The beginning of the pathway is well groomed and covered in crushed stone.
